Emotional infidelity: when trust is shaken
Betrayed, or grown too close to someone yourself? How emotional infidelity affects you, questions to reflect on and why couples counselling fits best.
You have been betrayed, or you have grown closer to someone else than your relationship allows. Trust and your sense of yourself are shaken.
How it can show up
- You have found out that your partner is very close to someone else.
- Or you notice that you yourself are growing closer to someone than your relationship allows.
- Trust that was taken for granted has been shaken.
- You don't know whether you want to stay or leave.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- What does faithfulness mean to you, and have you ever talked about it?
- What do you need right now to think clearly again?
- Whom around you could you confide in?
- Would couples counselling be a possible step for both of you?
What coaching can do
Couples counselling is not part of what I offer. At most, coaching can help with your own decision about how things go on for you.
When other help fits better
Couples and marriage counselling or couples therapy are the right support for this, on your own or together.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
