Few opportunities despite a degree: staying able to act

Good jobs are scarce, wages low and rents high? How a lack of economic prospects weighs on you, questions to reflect on and what coaching can do.

Society and culture

Good jobs are scarce, wages low, rents high. Even with a degree, a secure life seems hard to reach.

How it can show up

  • Despite your degree you hardly find a job you can live on.
  • Rent and living costs rise faster than your income.
  • You keep postponing plans such as a family or your own home.
  • You are considering changing country or industry.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • Which of your skills are needed in other industries too?
  • Which further training would improve your chances most?
  • Which opportunities in your region have you not yet looked into?
  • What would be a realistic next step in the coming three months?

What coaching can do

Coaching cannot change the economy. With your own career strategy, such as further training, a move or self-employment, career coaching can help.

When other help fits better

For funding programmes, start-up advice and financial help, employment agencies, chambers of commerce and advice services in your country are the right place to go.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
