Little practical experience: showing and building your skills

Degree done, experience missing: signs, questions to reflect on, and how coaching makes your existing skills visible.

Study and work

You have your degree, but job ads ask for experience you don't have yet. You don't know how to close the gap.

How it can show up

  • When you read job ads you tick off the requirements and see only gaps.
  • You only apply for jobs clearly below your level.
  • In interviews you don't know which examples to give.
  • You believe experience only counts if it was paid.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • Which tasks have you already solved where others asked you for help?
  • What have you learned in projects, side jobs or volunteering?
  • Which one skill would open the most doors for you?
  • Where could you practise it in the next three months?

Where coaching can help

Coaching helps you make your existing skills visible, including from side jobs, volunteering or family, and develop a plan for which experience to gather next.

When other help fits better

For internships, trainee programmes and funding, university career services, employment agencies and professional associations can help.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.

Want to talk it through?

In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
