Expressing yourself: speaking up more clearly
When what you say doesn't match what you mean: signs, questions to reflect on, and how coaching practises with real conversations.
You know what you think, but in conversations, meetings or discussions it doesn't come out the way you mean it, or not at all.
How it can show up
- The right answer only comes to you hours later.
- In groups you hold back even though you have something to add.
- You say yes when you mean no.
- When you do speak up, it comes out faster or quieter than you planned.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- Who do you find it easy to talk to, and what is different there?
- What do you fear when you say clearly what you think?
- Which situation would you most like to go differently next time?
- What could be a first sentence you say there?
Where coaching can help
In coaching we practise with real situations: stating your view clearly, saying no, asking questions, being interrupted and still carrying on. This is a core part of my work.
When other help fits better
If strong anxiety in social situations limits you almost everywhere, psychotherapy may also be worth considering.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
Want to talk it through?
In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
