More confident face to face: practising communication

Easy in chats, unsure in person: signs, questions to reflect on, and how coaching practises concrete conversations.

Life online

In chats a lot comes easily, but face to face, on the phone or in a group you get unsure and don't know what to say.

How it can show up

  • You would rather send a message than call.
  • In conversations you think so long about what to say that the moment passes.
  • Small talk feels exhausting.
  • You find eye contact hard.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • In which face-to-face conversation did you last feel at ease? What helped?
  • What do you fear in a direct conversation that doesn't happen in a chat?
  • Which question could you ask to get a conversation going?
  • Which conversation would you like to have in person rather than in writing this week?

Where coaching can help

Communication is a core part of my work. In coaching we practise concrete situations, from a phone call to a job interview, and you get direct feedback.

When other help fits better

If strong anxiety in social situations limits you almost everywhere, psychotherapy may also be worth considering.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.

Want to talk it through?

In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
