Fear of rejection: why you keep adapting to others
You adapt so you don't lose anyone? How fear of rejection or abandonment shows up, questions to reflect on and what coaching can offer.
You adapt so as not to lose anyone and avoid situations where you might be rejected. It protects you in the short term and narrows your life over time.
How it can show up
- You adjust your opinion so as not to risk an argument.
- A short reply or a missing like stays with you for a long time.
- You don't apply or ask because a no would hurt.
- In relationships you keep looking for signs that you are still wanted.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- Which rejection have you already come through, and how?
- What does a no really say about you, and what does it not?
- Where do you give something up just to avoid rejection?
- Which small risk would you take this week?
Where coaching can help
Coaching can help with concrete situations, such as applications, boundaries with friends or difficult conversations, where the fear of rejection has a say.
When other help fits better
If the fear runs very deep and is linked to early, painful experiences, working with a psychotherapist is the right path.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
Want to talk it through?
In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
