Undervalued at work: becoming visible and speaking clearly
When your work is hardly noticed: signs, questions to reflect on, and how coaching prepares the conversation with your manager.
Others get the interesting tasks or the credit for your work. You make an effort, and it is hardly noticed.
How it can show up
- In meetings your ideas are passed over and later raised by others.
- You haven't had feedback for a long time.
- Promotions and pay rises pass you by.
- You work more to get recognition and end up exhausted.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- What exactly do you want: recognition, money, responsibility or something else?
- Does your manager know what you contribute and what you want?
- Which of your contributions are invisible, and how could you show them?
- At what point would you start looking for something else?
Where coaching can help
Coaching helps you assess the situation soberly, make your contributions more visible and prepare a clear conversation with your manager. If nothing changes, also a move.
When other help fits better
In cases of discrimination, bullying or harassment, employee representatives, anti-discrimination services or legal advice can help.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
Want to talk it through?
In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
