Powerless in the face of war and injustice: what helps

News of wars, poverty and injustice leaves you angry or powerless? What it does to you, questions to reflect on and what can help.

Meaning and spirituality

News of wars, poverty and injustice leaves you angry, sad or powerless.

How it can show up

  • News of wars, poverty or injustice won't let go of you.
  • You feel helpless because you can hardly change anything.
  • You swing between anger and numbness.
  • Your own life sometimes feels unimportant next to it.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • Which cause does your heart beat for most?
  • What could you concretely do, however small?
  • How much news is good for you, and when does it become too much?
  • What gives you the strength to stay with it in the long run?

What coaching can do

Coaching cannot fix injustice. It can help you clarify where you want to make a difference yourself and how to deal with the news without going numb or burning out.

When other help fits better

Getting involved with aid organisations or initiatives can turn powerlessness into action. If the news weighs heavily on you emotionally, talk to a licensed psychotherapist.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
