Who am I? Identity between expectations and your own wishes
Unsure what truly belongs to you between family, friends, culture and your own wishes? Signs, questions to reflect on and what coaching can offer.
Between the expectations of family, friends, culture and your own wishes, you sometimes don't know what truly belongs to you. Many people go through this between studying and a first job, or between two cultures.
How it can show up
- Depending on who you are with, you behave like a different person.
- When asked what you want, little comes to mind.
- Decisions about study or work feel as if they were meant for someone else.
- You feel caught between two worlds, for example family and friends, or two cultures.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- In which moments do you feel completely yourself?
- Which values do you want to keep, wherever your path leads?
- What have you taken from your family that you consciously want to carry on?
- What would you try if no one were judging you?
Where coaching can help
Coaching can help you make your own values, strengths and interests visible and turn them into decisions about study, work and the way you want to live.
When other help fits better
If the uncertainty about who you are runs very deep, unsettles you badly or comes with emotional suffering, talk to a licensed psychotherapist.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
Want to talk it through?
In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
