Nowhere to speak openly: finding safe spaces

Hardly any place where you can say honestly what you think or feel? What that does to you, questions to reflect on and where such spaces can be found.

Society and culture

There are few places where you can say honestly what you think or feel without fearing consequences or judgement.

How it can show up

  • You think carefully about what you say to whom.
  • You keep honest opinions to yourself to avoid trouble.
  • There is hardly any place where you can speak without fear of being judged.
  • You share feelings and doubts anonymously at most.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • With which person can you speak most openly?
  • What would a place need for you to feel safe there?
  • Are there groups or counselling services that could offer such a space?
  • What would you finally like to say out loud?

What coaching can do

A coaching conversation is confidential. It does not change the wider situation, but it can be a place where you sort out your thoughts.

When other help fits better

Confidential counselling services, self-help groups and groups of people with similar experiences can offer such spaces.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
