Draining relationships: when people take more than they give
Many contacts but few where you feel at ease? How shallow or harmful relationships show up, questions to reflect on and what coaching can offer.
You have many contacts but few where you feel truly at ease. Some relationships cost you more energy than they give.
How it can show up
- After meeting certain people you feel drained or small.
- Conversations stay shallow even though you have known each other for years.
- You adapt so as not to get into trouble.
- You feel you give more than comes back.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- With which people do you feel better afterwards than before?
- Which relationship costs you the most energy, and why do you hold on to it?
- Which boundary would you like to state clearly for once?
- How much time do you want to spend with whom from now on?
Where coaching can help
Coaching can help you work out which relationships are good for you, where you want to set boundaries and how to say so without bending yourself out of shape.
When other help fits better
If someone controls, threatens, humiliates or hurts you, that is more than a difficult relationship. Services against violence help confidentially, and in an emergency the police.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
Want to talk it through?
In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
