Feeling low and empty for weeks: when to seek help
Everything feels heavy and nothing seems to matter? How lasting low mood can show up, and why a doctor or psychotherapist should come first.
Everything feels heavy and empty, and things that used to matter to you hardly mean anything now. This is not a weakness of character or a lack of willpower.
How it can show up
- Things that used to bring you joy hardly mean anything now.
- Even small tasks take a lot of energy.
- You withdraw from people who actually matter to you.
- The question of what it is all for will not let go of you.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- How long have you been feeling like this?
- Is there someone you could tell how you are really doing?
- What would be a first small step towards getting help, for example an appointment with your doctor?
- What would you advise a friend who felt the way you do?
When other help fits better
If you have felt like this almost every day for more than two weeks, see a doctor or a licensed psychotherapist. Depression is common and treatable. If you are thinking about harming yourself or suicide, call the emergency services right away.
What coaching can do
Coaching is not a treatment for depression and cannot replace one. Later, once you feel more stable, coaching can help you find direction and next steps again.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
