No meaning or purpose in life: when 'what for?' won't go away

You get through the day, but the question of what it's all for won't let go? Signs, questions to reflect on, where coaching helps and when other help fits.

Meaning and spirituality

You get through everyday life, but the question of what it is all for won't let go. Goals other people have feel empty to you.

How it can show up

  • You get your tasks done, but without inner drive.
  • Goals like career or possessions feel empty to you.
  • The question of what you live for keeps coming up.
  • You envy people who are passionate about something.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • In which moments have you experienced meaning, even briefly?
  • For whom or what would you like to make an effort?
  • What would you regret never having tried?
  • How would you notice that there is more behind it and you need help?

Where coaching can help

Coaching can help you find out what matters to you, where you already experience meaning and which goals could follow from that.

When other help fits better

If the sense of meaninglessness comes with low mood, lack of drive or thoughts of death, talk to a doctor or a licensed psychotherapist. If you are thinking about suicide, call the emergency services right away.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.

Want to talk it through?

In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
