No emotional support from your family: what you can do

Everything is taken care of except feelings? How a lack of emotional support at home shows up, questions to reflect on and where coaching can help.

Family and the people around you

Food, money or advice are taken care of, but feelings are hardly talked about. With what really moves you, you are on your own.

How it can show up

  • You would rather talk about problems with friends than with your family.
  • In your family people help, but rarely comfort.
  • When you are struggling, hardly anyone at home notices.
  • You have learned to cope with worries on your own.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • How does your family show affection, even if not in words?
  • What kind of support do you miss most?
  • Who outside the family already gives you that feeling?
  • What could you say directly to a family member for once?

Where coaching can help

Coaching can help you work out what support you need, where you can find it outside the family, and how you might still ask for it within the family.

When other help fits better

If you lack a reliable person to turn to and are struggling emotionally, a licensed psychotherapist or a counselling service can offer that support.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.

Want to talk it through?
