Lost motivation to study: carry on, switch or take a break?

Putting off lectures, assignments and exams? How losing motivation to study shows up, questions to reflect on and how coaching can help you decide.

Study and work

Lectures, assignments, exams: you keep putting everything off and wonder what you are actually doing it for.

How it can show up

  • You hardly go to lectures any more and don't catch up.
  • You put off assignments until just before the deadline.
  • You keep asking yourself whether the degree is right at all.
  • Before exams you feel indifference rather than ambition.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • What originally brought you to this degree?
  • Is it the subject, the way of learning or something else entirely?
  • Which module or topic interests you despite everything?
  • Who could you talk to about a switch or a break?

Where coaching can help

Coaching can clarify whether the issue is how you work, your goal or your subject, and help you decide: carry on with a new plan, switch or take a break.

When other help fits better

University advice services know about switching and taking breaks. If the lack of drive comes with low mood, also talk to a doctor or your university's counselling service.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.

Want to talk it through?

In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
