Low self-confidence: how it shows up and what helps

When you trust yourself less than you could: typical signs, questions to reflect on, and how coaching works with concrete situations.

What goes on inside

You trust yourself less than your abilities would justify. Others often see your strengths more clearly than you do.

How it can show up

  • You over-prepare because otherwise you fear you won't be good enough.
  • In conversations you would rather not say what you think.
  • You put your successes down to luck or chance.
  • You compare yourself a lot and always come off worse.

Questions for you

There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.

  • In which situation do you feel sure of yourself, and what do you do differently there?
  • Which three things have you managed in recent years that seemed hard at first?
  • Whose voice do you hear when you doubt yourself?
  • What would you try if you trusted yourself just a little more?

Where coaching can help

Coaching starts from concrete situations: where do you doubt yourself, what can you demonstrably already do there, and which experience would build your trust? Confidence grows through action, not through pep talks.

When other help fits better

If the self-doubt comes with deep low mood or hopelessness, talk to a licensed psychotherapist.

If it is too much right now

Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.

Want to talk it through?

In a free 20-minute intro call we look at whether coaching is the right way to work on this for you. If it is not, I will tell you so.
