Feeling far from God: living with spiritual guilt
Further from your faith than before, or feeling you don't live up to it? Questions to reflect on and who can help with spiritual guilt.
You feel further from your faith than before, or feel you are not living up to it. That weighs on you.
How it can show up
- Prayer or religious practice is harder for you than it used to be.
- You feel guilty for not living up to your faith.
- You miss the closeness you once felt.
- You talk to no one about your doubts.
Questions for you
There are no right answers. Take the question that stays with you.
- When did you last feel close to your faith?
- What has changed in your life since then?
- Which religious adviser could you talk to openly?
- What would be a small step that could bring you peace again?
What coaching can do
Religious guidance is not part of my coaching.
When other help fits better
Talking to a religious adviser you trust can help most here. If guilt is with you all the time or comes with low mood, also talk to a licensed psychotherapist.
If it is too much right now
Coaching is not psychotherapy and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact the emergency services where you are right away, or a crisis service near you.
